Southeast European Operations American Councils for International Education opened its offices in SE Europe in 2002 with the launch of the Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) in Serbia (Belgrade), Montenegro (Podgorica), Macedonia (Skopje), and Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo). In 2003, representative office in Albania (Tirana) was opened also with the launch of the JFDP. In 2004, American Councils expanded its offices and opportunities to residents of Kosovo with the inauguration of the Kosovo American Education Fund Graduate Fellowship Program (KAEF). The office is located in Priština. In 2005, American Councils opened a representative office in Zagreb, Croatia to promote JFDP in Croatia when JFDP was opened to residents of Kosovo and citizens of Croatia. IRO – Institute for the Development of Education is our partner in Croatia. In 2005, American - Serbia and Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange (A-SMYLE) program for high school students was launched in Serbia and Montenegro. Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program was launched in 2008. in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo and Macedonia. Now, American Councils SEE has representative offices in eight countries of SEE region. In addition to exchange opportunities for residents of SE Europe, American Councils provides language programs for American citizens wishing to travel to Eastern and SE Europe, with up to 100 percent funding available through Title VIII funding from the United States government. American Councils can also provide educational consulting services, and promotes community outreach via an extensive network of alumni and partnering institutions, public and private. Organizations interested in structuring and funding individual education programs may also wish to work with American Councils, which can provide professional administration at reduced cost through its extensive network of American educational partnerships.
